Foursquare was co-founded by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai and launched in Austin, Texas in 2009.
“Foursquare is a web and mobile application that allows its registered users to mingle up with each other by sharing their current location (known as check in), find great places near their cities and towns and earn points, badges and other rewards”.
What are the elements that are making Foursquare so appealing?
Dennis along with his team, over 100 technical experts, try to keep adding up spice and fun factor in the app. The recent addition that has been made by his team is the introduction of the ‘Mayor’ title. The person crowned as ‘Mayor’ is the one who has checked in a specific venue more often than other people do. The other things that are being used by Naveen and Dennis to make the entire project look more enticing include:
- Super user status
- Specials (Discounts and Freebies)
- Foursquare Success in Numbers
According to the recent updates, more than 30 million users have registered with Foursquare by January 2013. This gigantic community has made more than 3 billion check-ins. Businesses are also using this platform and according to the statistics released by the Foursquare, more than 1 million merchant platforms are currently functional on their website.
