Google Panda is one of the major updates of the algorithm of Google’s search engine results. The announcement about Google’s Panda update came in February, 2011. Google Panda update has added a number of new ranking features to Google’s algorithm. The aim of this major update is actually to prevent the low quality websites from securing high rank in Google search.

Google has sorted out more or less 23 characteristics of a quality website (which include the quality and originality of the web contents) in order to separate the high quality websites from the poor ones. Based on these prominent characteristics, Google rearranged their search engine results that affected about 12 percent of Google’s search results worldwide. However, Google has made ample changes to the Panda update since it was first launched in 2011.

What is Google Penguin?

Google Penguin is another major search engine algorithm update by Google that was first introduced in April, 2012. Google observed that some websites had been ranking high by dint of deliberate spammy techniques such as black-hat SEO, cloaking, keyword stuffing etc. Hence, Google came up with Penguin update with a view to decreasing the Google search rank of those websites that follows unauthorized techniques and violates the rules of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.

Following are some tips that can help you to protect your site from Panda or Penguin hit:

  1. Develop high quality contents for your website: There is a current meme ‘Content is the king’. This phrase truly represents the importance of high quality content of a website. After Google Panda update, you must ensure that you have good quality content for your website in order to survive in the contemporary internet world.
  2. Stay away from black-hat SEO techniques: On the one hand, it is a proven fact that natural SEO techniques may increase the position of your website in the search engine result pages. On the other hand, black-hat techniques are no longer helpful, especially after Google’s Penguin update. Black-hat techniques will only downgrade your position in the search engines.
  3. Do not use typical link wheel services: Plain link wheels that are used by many SEO firms to generate more high quality links in quick time may harm your website badly. If you are really interested to use link wheels, make sure that the wheel is sophisticated enough so that Google bot doesn’t consider it as a link scheme.
  4. Stop keyword stuffing: Always maintain a standard ratio of keywords in your contents. Usually 2-3% keyword density yields best result. Split your keywords into different parts and try to place them proportionately in your composition.
